The vast majority of energy used in northern Europe still comes from fossil fuels although the push for newer less polluting sources has begun. Both wind and solar power have been at the forefront of the research, but the problem of reliability has not really been overcome in the northern regions because of climatic considerations. In contrast, hotter countries have benefited from solar technology for decades now, while the colder north has had little success. On the other hand wave power has proved to be more consistent in terms of producing a steady energy supply. The output to date, however, has been small.
The device works differently from natural systems, but the result is exactly the same.
Sea levels are higher now than they have been for the last 100 years, though this change has affected regions differently because the Earth’s crust is not uniformly the same. The oceans cover 70 % of the planet, so any perceptible difference in their depth or temperature is a dangerous development. Of course, sea levels have been as high as this before but then human civilization was not a factor. Now our planet is much more densely populated andasmany as 39% of the world’s people live in coastal regions. The people who are the most at risk are those living in developing countries, where floods and natural disaster seem to have become a lot more frequent where there are far fewer resources for dealing with them
